A NEW HOPE

Not so long ago, in a living room not so far away...........

Star Wars was on, and Kaleb was actually watching it... and LIKED it! He got all excited when R2-D2 or C-3PO were on the screen!

I hope that one day we can sit and watch ALL the Star Wars movies together!

Brave Little Man

Kaleb had surgery yesterday to repair a hernia. He was SO BRAVE! We had to be there 2 hours before his surgery was scheduled, so he had a long wait, and he was very good through that. We couldn't give him anything to eat or drink before his surgery, and he didn't even ask for anything, the poor little guy. He did ask something funny though. Karl was sitting in a chair, and Kaleb walked up next to him and laid his head on Karl's leg, which had his cell phone in his pocket. Kaleb says "Daddy, what you got in your pants?" We laughed. Then Kaleb said "You got poop in there?" LOLOL

He REALLY enjoyed riding down the hall on the bed. Then we got to stay with him while they gave him the gas to put him to sleep. He was SO BRAVE. He didn't understand what was happening, but he didn't fight too much. Even the doctors said that he did VERY well for a 3-year old. Once he was asleep, Mama had to give him a kiss and go out to the waiting room (that was HARD for Mama!)

It seemed like it was no time at all before we got called in to talk to the doctor after the surgery, and he told us that it went extremely well. Daddy asked some questions about what to do with Kaleb when we got home, and the doctor kept telling us "Treat him as if he hadn't been here." We were a little surprised by that, but the doctor knew what he was talking about.

Then it was back to the waiting room to wait for them to call us back to recovery. Again, it seemed like no time at all. We went back to be with our brave little guy. He had just woke up when we got to his bed, and he was a little teary-eyed, but doing well. When he started to wake up more, he was upset about the IV on his arm. Once that came out, he calmed down somewhat. That is, until it was time to get his clothes on so we could go home. Holy chicken fat, Batman, did he put up a fight when we tried to get him dressed. It took me, Daddy, AND the nurse to get the job done. And he was kicking and screaming the whole time. When we had him dressed, he was fine.

Then we made a pit-stop at the hospital pharmacy to get some Tylenol for Kaleb. With our wristbands, we got it for $1 a bottle! Four ounces of brand name Tylenol for $1!! The tightwad in me was in awe!

On the way home, Kaleb kept asking for McDonald's. But the doctor and nurses had told us to go easy on his stomach for a bit and avoid greasy foods (like french fries). Fortunately, Kaleb didn't spot either of the two McDonalds we passed on the way home.

Once we got home, it was like he hadn't had surgery at all. He was back to normal. Playing and singing like normal. I got him some lunch, and he had no problems with nausea. Then we ALL took a nice long nap. After our nap, Kaleb asked again to go to McDonald's. How could I say no? He had been so brave and good. So, we made a special trip to get him a happy meal. He deserved it.

When we sat in the rocking chair before Kaleb went to bed last night, he was telling me about going to the "doctor's office". He told me he got to ride the bed. Then he said "the doctor was SO CUTE" LOL

Wiz Kid Update

Kaleb is still doing well with peeing in the potty! He LOVES it! Every time I take him in there he goes. The only drawback is that now he wants to flush it incessantly. And throw things in, whatever's handy..... a toy, a washcloth, etc. So we're keeping the bathroom door closed, but his potty chair is now in the living room.

He's off to a great start! Maybe today I'll try the toilet targets. That should REALLY get him excited! HEHEHE

Wiz Kid

Last night I let Kaleb run around commando for a while, partly cause his bum was a little red and partly so I could try to get him to sit on his potty chair. Well, it was almost time to get his diaper and pajamas on when I went in to take care of some business myself. Kaleb was running in and out of the bathroom while I was on the pot. He actually flushed the toilet for me several times while I was still on it. Then all at once he stopped, and started peeing on the floor. So I got up quick, grabbed him, and pointed him at the toilet. I got him to put his feet on the toilet seat and stand. He thought it was really cool to pee in the water. When he stopped peeing he said, "Go again". So he did, a little more. When he was done, I let him flush it again. I gave him a big hug and praised him, and gave him a sticker, which he put on his car. Then we washed our hands and I got him ready for and into bed.

Then this morning we got up, I changed his diaper, we had breakfast, we did some dishes together. I knew he had pooped while we were washing dishes, so when we were done I asked him if he wanted to go potty. He said "OKAY!" So I took his diaper off and wiped him clean, and he ran straight for the bathroom and asked me to open the door. (we've had to keep it closed the last couple days because he's discovered that he can throw things in and flush). ANYWAY, so we went into the bathroom, and I stood him up on the toilet seat like I had last night. I really didn't think anything was going to happen, but was letting him try. After 15 seconds or so, HE WENT! I was SO EXCITED! And Kaleb thought it was pretty cool too. He REALLY likes peeing in the big potty.

I let him run around commando again, cause I know if he has a diaper on, he'll just go in that. If I leave the diaper off, he doesn't go. About half an hour later, I took him in again. But nothing happened this time. So I let him go and I got ready for work. I figured I'd try again about the time we would have to wake Daddy up. So I went and woke Karl up, and while he was getting up out of bed I went and got Kaleb and had him say, "Daddy, come see" So we all went into the bathroom, and I stood him up again. We were standing there waiting and Karl said "He's not gonna do it" I told Karl "Just give him a minute, he's working on it." And then he went! Daddy was so proud!

Unfortunately, I had to go to work after that. But Karl called me about an hour after I got to work to tell me Kaleb had peed in the potty two more times! By the time I got home tonight, he had gone AGAIN. And I got him to go AGAIN before I put him to bed!

Hopefully things will go just as well tomorrow, but we have social group in the morning, so we won't have much time before I have to go to work. But we'll try.................
