Kaleb had surgery yesterday to repair a hernia. He was SO BRAVE! We had to be there 2 hours before his surgery was scheduled, so he had a long wait, and he was very good through that. We couldn't give him anything to eat or drink before his surgery, and he didn't even ask for anything, the poor little guy. He did ask something funny though. Karl was sitting in a chair, and Kaleb walked up next to him and laid his head on Karl's leg, which had his cell phone in his pocket. Kaleb says "Daddy, what you got in your pants?" We laughed. Then Kaleb said "You got poop in there?" LOLOL
He REALLY enjoyed riding down the hall on the bed. Then we got to stay with him while they gave him the gas to put him to sleep. He was SO BRAVE. He didn't understand what was happening, but he didn't fight too much. Even the doctors said that he did VERY well for a 3-year old. Once he was asleep, Mama had to give him a kiss and go out to the waiting room (that was HARD for Mama!)
It seemed like it was no time at all before we got called in to talk to the doctor after the surgery, and he told us that it went extremely well. Daddy asked some questions about what to do with Kaleb when we got home, and the doctor kept telling us "Treat him as if he hadn't been here." We were a little surprised by that, but the doctor knew what he was talking about.
Then it was back to the waiting room to wait for them to call us back to recovery. Again, it seemed like no time at all. We went back to be with our brave little guy. He had just woke up when we got to his bed, and he was a little teary-eyed, but doing well. When he started to wake up more, he was upset about the IV on his arm. Once that came out, he calmed down somewhat. That is, until it was time to get his clothes on so we could go home. Holy chicken fat, Batman, did he put up a fight when we tried to get him dressed. It took me, Daddy, AND the nurse to get the job done. And he was kicking and screaming the whole time. When we had him dressed, he was fine.
Then we made a pit-stop at the hospital pharmacy to get some Tylenol for Kaleb. With our wristbands, we got it for $1 a bottle! Four ounces of brand name Tylenol for $1!! The tightwad in me was in awe!
On the way home, Kaleb kept asking for McDonald's. But the doctor and nurses had told us to go easy on his stomach for a bit and avoid greasy foods (like french fries). Fortunately, Kaleb didn't spot either of the two McDonalds we passed on the way home.
Once we got home, it was like he hadn't had surgery at all. He was back to normal. Playing and singing like normal. I got him some lunch, and he had no problems with nausea. Then we ALL took a nice long nap. After our nap, Kaleb asked again to go to McDonald's. How could I say no? He had been so brave and good. So, we made a special trip to get him a happy meal. He deserved it.
When we sat in the rocking chair before Kaleb went to bed last night, he was telling me about going to the "doctor's office". He told me he got to ride the bed. Then he said "the doctor was SO CUTE" LOL
